The Senior Software Engineering Lead is responsible for leading the development of web and mobile applications for a successful, rapidly growing software company. You will provide inspiration, direction, and oversight for a team of 30+ outsourced developers by working hands-on with the development team and our product and project managers to bring new products and product upgrades to market. As the company’s primary in-house software engineer, you will set the standard for the outsourced development team and position the company for additional internal growth of its software development function.

What You'll Do

  • Design and implement software architectures, systems, and components for production systems and proof-of-concept demonstrations
  • Raise the technical bar for how we develop complex, scalable, and reliable systems
  • Build clarity out of ambiguous and complex problems
  • Approve architecture decisions & communicate well with other engineers to implement these architectures
  • Stand up an internal Git repository and secure CI/CD pipelines
  • Perform security code reviews and provide direction for remediating issues and preventing future vulnerabilities
  • Advocate for engineering excellence and communicate the benefits of standard methodologies to the team
  • Help level up the team through mentorship and training on design techniques and coding standards
  • Handle individual project priorities, deadlines, and work aligned with the product roadmap
  • Collaborate with other teams including product, UX, services, support & customers as needed

What You Bring

  • The ideal Senior Software Engineering lead should have strong attention to detail, including a passion for writing clean code and instructing and leading others on best practices for coding
  • 8+ years of software engineering experience building B2B or B2C-scale applications in the cloud
  • 5+ years as a JavaScript developer including coding in Angular or React on a daily basis
  • 5+ years developing Java or PHP backend applications, experience with Laravel is a plus
  • 3+ years designing or building mobile applications
  • Proficiency with SQL database design and coding, NoSQL experience is a plus
  • Deep technical knowledge around web application architectures, protocols, APIs, and developer tools
  • Proficiency in a technical stack from infrastructure to application code. We use AWS in Linux Apache or Node instances with PHP/Laravel, React, or Angular frameworks in JavaScript/TypeScript on MySQL or PostgreSQL databases
  • Proven experience working with distributed, secure, highly available systems
  • Proven ability to design and deliver complex and maintainable software systems and features
  • Ability to communicate how engineering system design relates to company outcomes
  • Experience balancing operations, maintenance, and new projects in a pragmatic way
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills especially across distributed teams
  • Personal drive and motivation to make a difference in a growing company
  • Takes initiative in learning new things, specifically new technologies
  • Interest and ability to mentor junior-level developers and other team members
  • Capable of working in a fast-paced environment
